HOW “MINORITY REPORT” COULD DEPICT THE FUTURE:

The film Minority Report is based on a short story representing a dystopian future where technology is used to detect and prevent crimes before they occur. The film represents how society during this time period heavily relies on advanced technology to control law and order. The technology used to prevent these crimes before they occur are heavily relied on sophisticated computer systems which control an individual’s date based on computer data and prediction. The movie also includes highly advanced surveillance systems which can see every movement, item, and behavior that the individual has or does which creates another digital footprint showing the lack of human monitoring in public. Similarly, there are user interfaces which allow for flawless interaction with data and showing how advanced technology is being heavily integrated into everyday tasks. This also shows how digital figures are an extension of human capabilities.  One of the biggest things that stuck out to me was the new extremely advanced personalized advertising, which is decided based on a person’s data and is peppered with ads everywhere they go. This shows how digital technology is invading one’s privacy and providing a new way for corporations to gain the attention of consumers. Lastly the film shows how there are still flaws within the highly advanced technology. The main protagonist discovers that you can sabotage the “PreCrime” systems and can allow for false convictions and accusations of innocent people. This helps show that technological manipulation is still a major factor in this future setting. Overall, this movie was very eye opening and allowed me to see the big picture and gain a general idea of how technology may impact the world and the digital figure in the future.
